Barrette's is a family owned and operated wood supplier that specializes in high quality flooring, unique table tops, S4S finished lumber, and live edge slabs. We carry about a dozen species of New England hardwoods and softwoods, with a variety of character appearances available in each species. All of our wood is kiln dried to a moisture content of 7% before being carefully milled to ensure straight edges and precise dimensions. Our time-tested process allows you to shop with confidence and avoid the hassle of working with wood that won't stay straight.
At Barrette's, we pride ourselves on our ability to supply walk-in ready lumber in just about every dimension that your woodworking project could require. We carry S4S lumber (finished on 4 sides) ranging in thickness from 1/2" to 4", width from 3" to 30", and length from 1'-16', with plenty of exceptions falling outside those ranges.
Many of the species we offer are regularly sawn into live edge slabs, ranging in finished thickness from 3/4" to 3", and occasionally beyond. All of our slabs are kiln dried before milling. We typically finished on two faces with the two live edges preserved, but can easily accommodate applications where only one live edge or some other configuration is desired.

Our tolerances are strict, and each piece is inspected at every step of the process for irregular thickness, warping, and anything else that may give you headaches down the road.

We have been buying wood at Barrette's since 1986 when we built our first house. Three houses later, we are still going back for the best quality woods we can find. Barrette's has supplied lumber used for wide pine floors, live edge counters and custom furniture including those hard to find native hardwoods for special projects. Ben and his family are the nicest people and deserve all the respect and admiration they get. It's always a fun trip to their place. And they let you look around until you find just the right piece. Like being a kid in a candy store.

My first trip to Barrette's today. On my quest for a lumber supplier that makes you feel like you are important too. All the people here are great. I was fortunate enough to meet Tom who gave me a most unforgettable tour of the facility. This place is a woodworkers candy store. I also learned a great deal of history about Thompson CT. Beautiful town. Can't wait to return!

Excellent hardwood lumber supplier. Many regional species including cherry, walnut, maple, white and red oak, poplar, birch, elm and others. Well organized climate controlled storage area. Slabs and dimensional lumber. Only downside to me is that all the wood is milled S4S. I prefer rough cut lumber to mill myself.

This place is amazing. The inventory and prices are first rate, but its Ben and Kevin that make Barrettes special. We spent several hours pulling boards for examination, I was never rushed, and they used there keen judgement to help me create a glue-up table top from some very interesting curly maple with lots of ambrosia. I cant wait to go back!

I had been looking for a black walnut table top for quite a while, but had a hard time finding the right one. As soon as I walked into Barrette's, I knew my search was over. They had every piece of wood you could imagine, and on top of that, the staff was incredibly kind and helpful. I encourage anyone with a woodworking project to pay these guys a visit.

A total hidden gem for carpenters, cabinet-makers and hobbyist woodworkers. Barrette's has an unbelievable selection of species and dimensions; the quality is top notch and the prices are fair. I've never bought a bad piece of wood from Barrette's and never not found what I was looking for. Plan to spend some time when you go-the selection is truly incredible.

Not to mention quality work and a great selection of woods. They allowed me to tour their mill and see how everything is made before talking with me about their product. It was wonderful to have a close-knit family company talk face-to-face with me rather than a big business mail things to me and talk over the phone.
