I often get asked how a tech guy ended up starting and owning a custom wood flooring company. As a kid in the 1970's I loved to tinker and build model boats and airplanes. During high school and college, I worked manual labor jobs to help pay the bills. After graduation, I married my college sweetheart, and got involved in a start-up business manufacturing disposable medical and consumer products.

For those customers who wish to feature "bare" wood floors, we offer all our Historic Floor species unfinished.
Our 5 engineered Hickory plank offers a distinctive look and durability unrivaled for under $5 per sq ft and is manufactured from select Missouri hickory material for a veneer wear layer that is dimensionally stable and rated for both commercial and residential foot-traffic. This product is simply charming and will warm your home or place of business for a price point that equals Champagne but is priced like beer.
Inspired by the lofts of early New York City oyster cellars, this 3/4 solid Historic Oak hardwood is reminiscent of the time-worm floors that established the Hudson Bay Region. This 5" wide plank, hand-scraped material reflects the process of "smoothing" or "scraping" the floor using steel rule or the adz to keep the floor planks from having a sharp edge when butted together after installation.

Extensive on-line research led us to Historic Floor and Steve when we wanted to find a unique wood floor to accent reclaimed hardwood we had already had installed. Steve was infinitely patient through the entire process. In our first meeting he explained all the options and pros and cons of various woods. We settled on wide plank Sugar Pine, and then began the process of creating custom samples to get the exact look we needed. Steve's patience and guidance were again in evidence as we went through at least six different samples and "tweaks" until we got exactly what we wanted. Finally, when it was time to install, Steve led us to a phenomenal installer who did a perfect job.
We love our new floor. Historic does business all over the country, but they treated us "locals" with excellent service as well. Steve was a delight and the product is wonderful.

Historic replaced about half of our carpeted first floor with hardwood and refinished the entire floor including the original 20-year old red oak flooring. The results were outstanding! Historic's crew were extremely professional and meticulous in finishing and matching the new flooring with the old. The work was finished on time and was excellent value. We highly recommend Historic's flooring and installation to anyone who is looking for topflight hardwood floors.
